Leafy greens include kale, spinach, collards, Swiss chards and spring greens. Eating leafy greens is a great way to increase the volume of your meals, without increasing the calories. They’re also a good source of vitamin C, known to help strengthen the immune system.
Green vegetables also contain nitrates, which have been found to promote the browning of white adipose (fat) tissue. Leafy green veggies have several properties that make them perfect for a weight loss diet, including being low in calories and carbohydrates and being loaded with belly-filling fibre that keeps hunger at bay. They also contain calcium, which has been shown to aid fat burning in some studies.
Leafy veggies are also packed with folic acid, which aids in the digestion of food and supporting a healthy metabolism. Additionally, some studies also shown that leafy greens help to reduce oxidative stress. So the bottom line is – leafy greens are a real health asset!
